The University of West Alabama will host a special ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 11, in remembrance of the tragic events that shook the nation on that date 15 years ago. The ceremony will begin at 8 p.m. under the flags at the front lawn of the Student Union Building. The community is invited to join the remembrance ceremony.

University President Dr. Ken Tucker and SGA President Mr. Hunter Winborne will each speak at the ceremony. In addition, Dr. Kitsy M. Dixon, director of the UWA Wesley Foundation, will share her personal story from the events that occurred in New York.

Dixon, who joined the UWA community this summer, was a student at University of Buffalo in Buffalo, NY, when the attacks occurred. As a student resident assistant, she was a friend and counselor to the many students and colleagues whose families had been directly affected on that day. She will share her testimony from the day and the months and years of grief and struggle of the community that followed.

Parking for the event is available in the lower SUB parking lot adjacent to the Covered Bridge Area.
